Science

The units in our Connected Curriculum for Science, deliver the aims and contents of the National Curriculum Programme of Study for Science in Key Stage 1 and 2.

I am thrilled to share with you the exciting news that the children at Radbrook Primary School are excelling in science! Our students have been enthusiastically engaging with various science-related activities and competitions, demonstrating their passion for discovery and learning.

The STEM club has been a particularly popular endeavour, where children have had the opportunity to delve deeper into the world of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths. Their enthusiasm and dedication in investigating various scientific concepts are truly commendable.

Our participation in British Science Week was also a resounding success. The children actively participated in various activities and experiments, further enhancing their knowledge and interest in the fascinating world of science. Teaming up with science specialist teachers from Shrewsbury School, helped to further enhance this experience.

Moreover, I am incredibly proud to announce that our children have participated in the Big Plastic Count, the Prestfelde Science Competition, the Climate Change Competition, the Forest School initiatives, and the British Gas Sustainability Competition. These experiences have not only allowed our children to showcase their scientific skills, but also highlight the importance of environmental responsibility and sustainability.

Shrewsbury Town Council recently held a climate change competition as a way to engage with younger members of the town about their views on the climate crisis and what should be done to address this. This competition was publicised to all schools and youth groups across the town. I was amazed by all the entries by children from Radbrook and was so proud that we had a winner and two runners up:

Theo from Albrighton won the 5-8 years category and Lily and Eddie, both from Baschurch, were runners up.

The children had their prizes presented to them by members of the Town Council’s Climate Emergency & Nature Recovery Standing Committee, including:

Councillor Rosemary Dartnall (Deputy Chair), Alan Jameson (Climate Change Officer) and Danny Powell (Operations Manager).

The children were all excited to receive their voucher prize gifts and framed certificates!

I would like to take this opportunity to commend the children for their hard work, dedication, and enthusiasm towards science. I also want to express my gratitude to you, the parents, for supporting and encouraging your child's exploration of the sciences.

Moving forward, I would like to encourage you to continue fostering your child's curiosity and passion for science. Engaging in science-related activities at home, visiting science museums, or conducting simple experiments together can further enrich your child's learning experience.

Thank you once again for your ongoing support and collaboration in nurturing our children's love for science. Together, we can inspire the next generation of scientists and innovators!

Kind Regards,

Helen Lowther Science Co-ordinator Radbrook Primary School
